  • The Fall Fashion Wish List

Over my shoulder, I can see the holidays approaching. It will be weeks – days! – until they’ve caught up with me, overtaken me, and will demand my attention. And yet I’ve barely glanced at my fall fashion wishlist. I’m running out of time! {Cue a full-blown panic attack, please.} I’m just settling into the idea of fall. I’ve convinced myself that fall is the new summer and summer is, well, …hell. But as I finally wrap my head around this idea, we’re heading into the holiday season! Ugh. However, none of this is my point. My point is that I have a fall fashion wishlist. And I would like to shop for and share it with you – before we have to start shopping for the holidays! So, here we go. I started scoping out fall trends back in August (when I should have been prepping for the holidays). After weeding out the trends that I wouldn’t wear or wouldn’t translate to the real world, I made a list of trendy items I wanted to try this season. Then I added items I generally needed to add to my wardrobe, and voila! My wishlist was ready. Now, let’s take a look and see if you find items to add to your list, too. All things hot pink Keep summer alive in the hottest color of the fall season: hot pink. This bright shade will add a pop to neutral fall looks. Bonus: it will be a great holiday color (for those who are actually thinking ahead already). Gap Classic Cotton Rib Cardigan, $70. White tanks This was the item all over the fall runways, giving Cindy Crawford vibes. Look for styles that make you look and feel good. Black White Beige White Ribbed Tank, $47. A hip bag But Mom, all the cool kids are wearing them! It's a convenient way to schlep your stuff and stay hands-free. Find an appropriately sized bag that feels comfortable on your frame. Herschel Fourteen Hip Pack Woven Belt Bag, $22. 70's style jeans Yep, they're making (another) comeback. Who doesn't love the way this slightly flared look elongates the leg? Buy a pair that you'll be able to pull out when the trend (inevitably) comes around again. Levi's 70's High Rise Flare Women's Jeans, $108. Loafers Channel your inner Cher Horowitz and step into the prep school trend. Loafers are hot this season and are available in tons of shades, textures, and styles. Sam Edelman "Loraine" Glitz, $150. Faux leather moto jacket Faux leather is HOT right now. To avoid anything too trendy, I'll be wearing mine in a classic moto jacket. Blank NYC Faux Leather Moto Jacket, $98. Wide leg jeans A wide leg is great for a silhouette that is wider on the bottom (apple or pear shape), just be sure to balance out the top. Look for styles with a mid-rise and ankle length. Edwin "Marli" High Waist Crop Wide Leg Jeans, starting at $198. Oversized blazer This is a trend that isn’t going anywhere. But remember: oversized is good, drowning is not. Make sure that the body and sleeves of the jacket don’t overwhelm you. Old Navy Soft-Brushed Oversized Blazer, $80. White button-up shirt This is a classic, effortlessly cool, wardrobe staple. It's easy dressing at its finest. For this season, look for oversized styles in crisp fabrics.

  • The White Button-Down Shirt

How many white button-downs are too many? No, seriously, I'm asking. Because I need to know if I'm getting into epidemic territory. There's something so chic about a white button-down. There's this feeling of are you coming or are you going? If you don't know what I mean, throw one on and see how you feel. Do you feel like a corporate mistress? A bohemian artisan? Or an It Girl wearing the shirt of her latest romantic fling (which started at 2 am the morning before)? Those who subscribe to my newsletter know the white button-down to be an essential, something every woman needs in her wardrobe. To me, it is on par with the white tee. Something you can't live without. And as versatile. But more elevated. The white button-down shirt will become the workhorse of your wardrobe - if you let it - taking you from day to night and back again. I prefer mine oversized to inspire that "I borrowed it from my husband" look. {tip: shop the men's section if this is your vibe. Yes, the buttons may be contrary to what you're used to, but I promise that no one will notice} If I'm wearing it under a blazer or in a more professional setting (think: Wall Street interview), I may opt for a more fitted look. I also prefer no pockets at the chest, but that can be hard to come by. It seems as though every white button-down has an obligatory pocket or two. Instead, take a good look in the mirror to make sure the pocket isn't adding visual bulk at the bust. And speaking of busts, button gaping is a real issue, I know. Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing what buttons will do until you try it on. If the occasion allows, I opt to undo as many buttons as I am comfortable with. It gives a sexy (but not TOO sexy), low-cut look. For times when I have to be more, well, buttoned up, fabric tape or a safety pin goes a long way towards solving the issue. When it comes to sleeve length, I say go for a long sleeve version. Roll up the sleeves when you need to project a "cool girl" vibe, or it gets too warm. Short sleeve versions often give off camp counselor vibes - which, is a look unto itself. Once you've found the perfect white button-down shirt (or two, or ten), you'll find yourself always reaching for them. As I said, a wardrobe workhorse. Over jeans with a loafer, it's a perfect running errands shirt. Thrown on with a pair of trousers and a heel, it's a great top for a night of cocktails. There is no end to the ways of styling it or how to wear it. So, how many white button-downs are too many? The world - or at least this woman - may never know. SHOP some of my choices for a perfect white button-down below. Note: Items in this post have been hand selected by me and may contain affiliate links. • The Basic Tank

As I mentioned, basics are the foundation of your wardrobe. They help pull everything together. Having a solid set of basics allows you to always have something to wear. The basic tank is one of the hardest working pieces in a wardrobe. In the summer pair it with shorts, wear it under low-cut dresses, or layer it under lightweight hoodies (for those cool summer nights...if you live somewhere that actually cools down at night. I know nothing about that. #desertliving). When it gets cooler they become the base layer for almost every outfit. I wear mine under sweaters, sweatshirts, and long sleeves of all kinds. They also become workwear under blazers and office-appropriate jackets. I'm not sure where my wardrobe would be without a few basic tanks. I like to keep them in black, white, grey, and whatever the color of the season may be. Later, once you have your basics covered, elevate to tanks that play to your personal style. Check out these simple tank tops to get your collection started. Happy shopping! Note: Items in this post have been hand selected by me and may contain affiliate links. • The Elevated Tank: Market & Spruce "Ezide" Textured Mixed Material Top

We all need basics in our life. Basics are the foundation of our wardrobe, they pull everything together. But contrary to popular belief, basics do not have to be boring. Enter the elevated basic. Elevated basics not only pull together an outfit, but they also give the nod to your personal style. Like this textured, notched v-neck, tank by Market & Spruce. At the basest level, it's a white tank top. Something we all need in our closets. But the tonal, raised polka dots add a little something extra. Whimsy, creativity, fun. It's more elevated than a dull, ribbed tank (which, in all honesty, has its place, but I digress). When you're ready to get beyond basics and dig into your personal style, opt for an elevated basic. Thank me later. SHOP IT NOW: https://bit.ly/texturedtank P.S. - not registered with Stitch Fix? Use my referral link to get a $25 credit on your first purchase! • There's Something About A Black & White Stripe: Threads 4 Thought Tyla High-Neck Stripe Tank

I have a thing for black and white stripes. I don't know what it is. I guess it feels classic. Definitely less nautical than a navy and white stripe, but still as chic. This black and white stripe, high neck tank by Threads 4 Thought is particularly special. Mainly because it balances wide-leg pants - something I've been fond of lately. The buttons down the back not only add interest but help to compensate for curvier rears (like mine!). Undo a button or two and the top lays neatly over your back end. When the weather turns warm, I'll layer it under a denim jacket or toughen it up with a pair of tall, black boots. Until then, I'll throw it together with white jeans, black leggings, or cutoff shorts. With cute, candy-colored shoes for a burst of color, of course. SHOP IT NOW: https://bit.ly/bwtank1 I purchased my top via Stitch Fix, where it is still available (as of the time I posted this). But it is also currently on final sale via the Threads 4 Thought website. Still available in sizes XS, S, M, and XL. IMO, it runs true to size. You can see me take a turn in it during this YouTube video. Don't forget to use Rakuten to get cash back on your Threads 4 Thought purchase!

  • The Everyday Hoops: A New Day Gold Hoop Earrings from Target

I wear these every day. Every. Single. Day. Why wouldn't I? First of all, hoops are trending in a big way. They were all over the Spring runways paired with all the Y2K fashion we hate to love. You'll love them with handkerchief tops. You'll love them with low-rise jeans (if you dare). You'll especially love them with bucket hats. Be sure to get them in a lightweight material (like these affordable ones from Target). That way they swing carelessly without weighing your ears down. Even if they weren't trending, there's something very Boss Lady about a pair of oversized hoops. They are large, in charge, and say that you are, too. And, indeed, I AM VERY MUCH IN CHARGE. Don't make me take my earrings off to prove it. SHOP THEM NOW: https://shopstyle.it/l/bE7k7

  • The All Inclusive Dress: A New Day Long Sleeve Tiered Dress from Target

6:52 pm. I'm taking one last twirl in front of the mirror. I'm on my way to meet my BFF at one of the several nice, but not TOO nice, restaurants at this all-inclusive Mexican resort. This tiered dress from Target is perfect. It's loose enough to accommodate the amount of food I plan to indulge in. It is also chic enough for a twirl at the bar later in the evening. The lightweight fabric can withstand the warm days. Layer an oversized denim jacket over it, and it can withstand the ocean breeze. Walk on the beach anyone? This is a fantasy, of course. I'm actually sitting at my desk, wishing the weather to be warm. But if I was going to a Mexican resort, I'd pack this all inclusive dress. 100%. • The Cropped Cardigan: Sunday Best Cardigan for Aritzia

There's good reason to fear the onslaught of Y2K fashion. All those teeny tops and bare bellies. And so much pink. Even when it's not Wednesday. But never fear. Cropped cardigans don't have to be about showing your skin (unless you want them to). And they don't have to be pink (although, admittedly, they're adorable). They're perfect over those dark floral dresses you wore all fall (remember those?). Or buttoned up over high-waisted pants. The key is to make the trend work for you.
